Performance first.
Material choices begin with the demands of the product and the environment it is designed to enter.
Performance begins with the materials, closures, and construction chosen for the environment a product is meant to enter. We select around durability, real-world use, and smarter material choices wherever practical.
We think about materials as part of a system. Performance, durability, placement, sourcing, and intended use all have to make sense together.
EXPLORE THE MATERIALS↓Groundbreaking products start with materials chosen for what the product actually needs to do.
We source materials around quality, durability, performance, and the environments our gear is expected to encounter. Wherever practical, we also look for recycled material options that can reduce environmental impact without compromising the job the product needs to perform.
The goal is not to chase a specification because it sounds impressive. It is to find the right combination of materials, construction, and placement for dependable real-world use.
Material choices begin with the demands of the product and the environment it is designed to enter.
We consider how materials will handle repeated use, abrasion, weather, and demanding outdoor conditions.
We look for opportunities to use recycled materials and smarter sourcing when they make sense for the product.
The Crossbody uses 1680D TPU as the foundation of its body construction.
For this product, the material choice supports a design intended for water, weather, and outdoor use while maintaining the compact structure of the bag.
The number alone is not the story. What matters is how the material fits the job and works with the rest of the waterproof system.
Material selection should support the intended environment without turning the specification itself into the product story.

A waterproof body only works when the closure supports the same job.
The Crossbody uses a waterproof sealing zipper as part of its protection system. When the zipper is fully closed and properly sealed, it helps protect the opening from water entering the bag.
That sealing function also means the zipper can feel firmer than a conventional everyday zipper.
Make sure the zipper reaches the fully sealed position before water exposure.
Sand, dirt, and debris around the sealing surfaces can interfere with closure.
Use the included zipper lubricant as needed to help maintain smooth operation.
Waterproof performance comes from the relationship between the body, the opening, the construction, and how the product is used. The Crossbody's IP68 rating describes the finished product, not one isolated material.
The material forming the primary structure of the Crossbody.
A sealing closure designed to protect the place where the bag opens.
The Crossbody carries an IP68 rating and is designed for waterproof and submersible protection when properly closed and sealed.
Performance depends on keeping sealing surfaces clean and fully closing the zipper before exposure.
Submersible protection is not the same thing as a published scuba-diving depth or pressure rating. SKÖ does not currently publish a scuba depth rating for the Crossbody.
How materials respond when gear meets rock, rough surfaces, repeated contact, and the friction that comes with outdoor use.
How the material and surrounding construction fit a product intended to encounter wet and changing conditions.
How material choices and placement support longevity rather than simply looking good when a product is new.
Where a material is used can matter as much as the material itself, especially in areas exposed to greater wear or environmental stress.
Rocky desert terrain is one example of the kind of abrasive, demanding environment we consider when evaluating materials for adventure gear.
We evaluate materials for the conditions gear is expected to meet, then use what we learn to determine the combinations and placements that make the most sense.
Waterproof gear works in demanding environments. A few simple habits help keep the zipper, sealing surfaces, and product ready for the next use.
Use fresh water to remove salt and residue after ocean use.
Remove sand, dirt, and debris from the zipper and sealing surfaces before closing.
Use the included zipper lubricant when needed to help maintain smooth operation.
Allow the product to dry after use before putting it away for extended storage.
Check that the zipper path is clean, then fully close and properly seal the zipper before exposure.
Materials are only useful when they support the job. We choose around the environment, evaluate them in real conditions, and look for smarter ways to use them across the gear we build.
