SKÖ vs Thread Wallets Crossbody Bag: Full Comparison

SKÖ vs Thread Wallets Crossbody Bag
Two compact crossbody bags. Two very different reasons to buy one. Thread's Crossbody is a lower-priced everyday bag built around easy carry, pockets, style variety and travel. SKÖ is a waterproof crossbody built around keeping a small set of valuables protected when real water enters the picture.
SKÖ Gear publishes this comparison and manufactures the SKÖ Waterproof Crossbody. We use manufacturer-published specifications, identify missing information rather than filling it with assumptions, and call out categories where Thread has the stronger offer. We did not independently laboratory-test the Thread Crossbody for this article. Prices, review counts, specifications and availability can change.
Thread wins everyday value.
SKÖ wins water protection.
Buy Thread if you mainly want an affordable, compact crossbody for errands, concerts, travel and everyday essentials. Buy SKÖ if the reason you are shopping is that those essentials may actually get soaked, dropped into water or carried through wet environments.

Best fit for affordable everyday carry.
Thread gives you a compact nylon crossbody, removable strap, several ways to wear it and useful organization for much less money.
- $29.99 reviewed price
- Nylon body + polyester liner
- Adjustable/removable 41-inch strap
- Large public review history

Best fit when water protection is the point.
SKÖ costs considerably more, but the additional money is paying for an entirely different construction goal: a compact waterproof and submersible enclosure for valuables.
- Published IP68 designation
- 1680D TPU construction
- Waterproof zipper
- Approx. 1.14 L capacity
What are you actually paying for?
SKÖ has the published waterproof system. Thread does not publish an IP or immersion rating for the standard Crossbody.
ADVANTAGE: SKÖThread costs $29.99 compared with $80 for SKÖ, a difference of $50.01 at the prices reviewed.
ADVANTAGE: THREADThread uses a conventional everyday-bag format. SKÖ's waterproof zipper is deliberately firmer because sealing is part of its job.
ADVANTAGE: THREADKayaking, paddleboarding, boating, swimming and wet travel are where SKÖ's construction becomes meaningfully different.
ADVANTAGE: SKÖThe specs that actually matter.
Thread sells several colors and material variations. To make this comparison reproducible, the Thread column uses the Black Crossbody Bag and its current published specifications. Thread's Clear Crossbody, for example, uses a different TPU body.

Prices and published specifications checked October 7, 2026. Thread lists its dimensions as 5.5 in length × 2 in width × 7.5 in height for the Black model; they are reordered above only so the two bags can be compared on the same orientation. We do not estimate Thread's liter capacity from exterior dimensions.
This is the category that separates the two bags.
SKÖ publishes an IP68 designation and describes its Crossbody as waterproof and submersible when the waterproof zipper is fully and properly closed. Thread's standard Black Crossbody page does not publish an IP code, immersion depth or equivalent submersion claim.
That distinction matters because the word crossbody only describes how the bag carries. It says nothing about what happens when a bag gets dropped into a lake, hit repeatedly by waves or carried through a soaking wet environment.
Thread is primarily selling a convenient everyday bag. SKÖ is selling a compact waterproof enclosure that also happens to be wearable as a crossbody.
Published ingress-protection designation, waterproof zipper, TPU body and submersible product positioning.
The standard Crossbody page focuses on everyday carry, travel, style and wearability rather than immersion protection.
Absence of a waterproof rating is not the same as proving a bag fails in rain.
We would not claim Thread cannot survive an incidental splash unless Thread publishes or testing establishes that. We simply would not treat the standard Thread Crossbody as a submersible bag when the manufacturer does not publish that capability.
IP68 should not be turned into an invented depth claim.
SKÖ publishes IP68, but its current Crossbody page does not state a specific scuba depth or pressure-use rating. This comparison therefore does not assign one.
Thread is the easier everyday organizer.
SKÖ deliberately gives up some convenience and pocket complexity in exchange for the structure and closure system required by its water-first design.

Better suited to creating one protected space for a phone, wallet, keys and similarly sized valuables.

Thread's product imagery and customer feedback emphasize easy organization of everyday essentials.
This is one of the clearest Thread wins. Its crossbody format makes sense for the shopper who reaches into the bag repeatedly throughout the day. Phone, keys, small wallet, earbuds and other small items can be separated rather than sitting in one protected cavity.
SKÖ's waterproof zipper also has more resistance than a normal fashion zipper. That is intentional. The closure is part of the waterproofing system. Someone opening a bag constantly at a coffee shop, airport or grocery store may prefer Thread's conventional access.
SKÖ's interior and closure make more sense when protection is the priority. Thread's design makes more sense when quick access and pocket organization matter more.
The exterior footprints are closer than the prices suggest.
The reviewed Thread bag and SKÖ have the same published height and depth. Thread is approximately 0.8 inch wider.
Published height is effectively a draw.
Thread is roughly 0.8 inch wider.
Published depth is also a draw.
We do not calculate Thread's capacity by multiplying the three exterior dimensions. Soft bags curve, taper and lose usable volume to seams, lining and pockets, so a rectangular exterior-volume calculation is not the same as measured internal capacity.
The practical conclusion is that both are small crossbodies intended for a compact set of essentials. Neither is trying to replace a backpack or tote.
Nylon everyday carry versus TPU waterproof construction.
Both brands publish the basic material used in the reviewed models, but those materials are serving different design requirements.

1680D TPU
SKÖ publishes a 1680D TPU body specification together with a waterproof zipper and waterproof/submersible positioning.

Nylon + polyester
Thread publishes a nylon body and polyester liner for the Black model reviewed, together with durable metal clasps and a woven jacquard strap.
It would be misleading to declare one material universally "better." Nylon makes sense for a normal lightweight-feeling everyday bag. TPU construction makes sense when a product's job includes sealing out water.
Thread also varies materials across the Crossbody line. Its Clear Crossbody, for example, uses a TPU body rather than the nylon body of the Black model used in this comparison. That does not automatically make the Clear model waterproof; material alone is not a substitute for a published protection rating and sealing system.
Fabric alone does not determine how long a bag lasts.
Stitching, hardware, zipper construction, abrasion, loading and everyday use all affect durability. Thread currently offers a limited lifetime warranty for defects in materials and workmanship. SKÖ also backs its Crossbody with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Thread gives you more fashion flexibility.
If the bag itself is part of the outfit, Thread has the stronger selection. If the environment is the deciding factor, SKÖ's narrower purpose can make more sense.
Thread deserves the style-selection win. Its Crossbody collection includes numerous colors and patterns, and the company describes the strap as adjustable and removable. Its D-ring arrangement supports more than one wearing position.
Thread also sells a Clear Crossbody variation, which may appeal to shoppers attending venues with transparent-bag requirements. Venue policies differ, so buyers should still verify the specific event's size and bag rules.
SKÖ's design is more utilitarian. The current Crossbody listing is centered on Matte Black and the product's reason for existing is protection, not maximizing fashion combinations.
SKÖ's advantage appears only when waterproof capability becomes more important than variety.
Thread has far more public review history.
That is a genuine Thread advantage and one worth considering if a large volume of long-term customer feedback matters to your buying decision.
Based on approximately 1,311 reviews when this comparison was checked on October 7, 2026.
View current Thread reviews ↗Compact size, comfortable everyday carry, useful pockets, travel convenience, colors and an adjustable strap.
Some reviewers say the bag is smaller than expected, while others wish the strap were longer.
Thread has been selling its Crossbody long enough to provide substantially more public customer evidence than SKÖ currently has. We would not try to hide that difference.
Review count, however, answers a different question from waterproof specification. A product can have thousands of happy everyday users and still not be designed for immersion. Shoppers should use reviews to understand daily ownership and manufacturer specifications to understand technical protection.
Let the environment decide.
Neither bag needs to be universally better. The useful question is which design matches what you are actually doing.
Most of your life happens away from serious water.
Thread makes a lot of sense as a small everyday bag when you want convenience, style, easy access and a much lower price.
- Daily errands and shopping
- City travel
- Concerts and casual outings
- Airport carry
- Style and color variety
- Easy everyday access
Water exposure is part of the actual use case.
SKÖ makes more sense when your phone, wallet and keys need their own waterproof space and accidental immersion is plausible.
- Kayaking
- Paddleboarding
- Boating
- Beach days
- Wet adventure travel
- Swimming and water-focused activities
| Use case | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday errands | Thread | Lower price, more style variety and easier everyday access |
| City travel | Thread / depends | Thread for daily organization; SKÖ when wet conditions matter |
| Concerts | Thread | Everyday styling and a separate Clear Crossbody option |
| Theme parks | Depends | Thread for normal park carry; SKÖ when water rides and soaking exposure are central |
| Kayaking | SKÖ | Published IP68 protection and waterproof zipper |
| Paddleboarding | SKÖ | Immersion becomes plausible if you fall in |
| Beach / boating | SKÖ | Water-first construction for valuables |
| Heavy rain / wet travel | SKÖ | Published waterproof and submersible product positioning |
| Fashion variety | Thread | Broader selection of colors and material treatments |
Thread costs $50.01 less.
For many shoppers, that should decide it.
At the prices reviewed, the Thread Black Crossbody is $29.99 and the SKÖ Waterproof Crossbody is $80. If you do not need meaningful water protection, Thread is the easier value proposition.
Paying an additional $50.01 for SKÖ only makes sense if you value what that additional construction is designed to accomplish. The waterproof zipper, 1680D TPU body, published IP68 designation and submersible positioning add capability that a normal everyday crossbody is not trying to provide.
If your bag will spend its life at school, restaurants, airports, concerts, shopping centers and dry everyday environments, Thread gives you a very compelling amount of utility for $29.99.
If the phone inside that bag is going kayaking, paddleboarding, boating, swimming or into environments where getting completely wet is a realistic possibility, then the comparison changes.
Which one should you buy?
Thread is the stronger everyday-value choice. SKÖ is the stronger water-protection choice. The biggest mistake would be choosing based only on the fact that both products are small crossbody bags.
You want a good everyday crossbody for around $30.
Thread combines low price, a compact footprint, organization, multiple wearing positions, color variety and a large track record of customer reviews.
View Thread's product page ↗You want the small crossbody to also be your waterproof bag.
SKÖ costs more and gives you less fashion variety, but it is purpose-built for protecting a compact set of essentials around rain, spray and environments where immersion may occur.

Questions people ask before choosing.
Is the Thread Crossbody Bag waterproof?
Thread's current Black Crossbody Bag page does not publish an IP rating, immersion depth or submersible-waterproof claim. Its warranty information also lists water damage among damage that is not covered. We therefore would not treat the standard Thread Crossbody as a substitute for a published waterproof bag.
Is the SKÖ Waterproof Crossbody actually waterproof?
SKÖ publishes an IP68 designation and describes the Crossbody as waterproof and submersible when its waterproof zipper is fully and properly closed. The current product page does not publish a specific scuba depth or pressure-use figure, so this comparison does not invent one.
Which bag is bigger, SKÖ or Thread?
They are close. SKÖ measures 7.5 × 4.7 × 2 inches. The Black Thread Crossbody reviewed here is published at 7.5 × 5.5 × 2 inches when normalized to the same orientation. Thread is therefore about 0.8 inch wider while published height and depth are the same.
How much does the Thread Crossbody Bag hold?
Thread does not currently publish a liter capacity for the standard Black Crossbody. We do not estimate capacity by multiplying its exterior dimensions because that would not accurately represent usable internal volume.
Which bag has better organization?
Thread is the stronger everyday organizer. Its product imagery and customer feedback emphasize multiple compartments and everyday accessibility. SKÖ intentionally uses a simpler valuables-focused interior around its waterproof enclosure.
Which one is better for travel?
Thread is an excellent fit for normal city and airport travel because it is inexpensive, compact and easy to access. SKÖ becomes the stronger fit when the trip includes beaches, boats, paddling, heavy rain or other meaningful water exposure.
Which is better for theme parks?
It depends on the park day. Thread makes sense for normal hands-free park carry and also offers a separate Clear Crossbody variation. SKÖ makes more sense if water rides, splash zones or heavy rain are a major part of the day. Always follow the park or attraction's specific bag and loose-item rules.
Which is better for kayaking or paddleboarding?
Based on published specifications, SKÖ is the more appropriate choice because it publishes an IP68 rating and uses a waterproof zipper. Thread's standard Crossbody page does not publish an immersion-protection rating.
Why is the SKÖ Crossbody so much more expensive?
The products are built around different requirements. Thread focuses on affordable everyday carry. SKÖ publishes a 1680D TPU body, waterproof zipper, IP68 designation and waterproof/submersible design. Whether that capability is worth the additional cost depends on how wet your use case is.
Does Thread have the stronger customer review history?
Yes. Thread's current Crossbody listing displayed a 4.7/5 rating from approximately 1,311 reviews when this article was checked in October 2026. That is a substantially larger public review base and a legitimate Thread advantage.
Is SKÖ a good alternative to the Thread Crossbody?
Yes if you like the compact crossbody format but specifically need waterproof protection. No if your main reasons for buying Thread are its roughly $30 price, larger style selection and everyday pocket organization. They overlap in form factor but solve different problems.
How this comparison was built.
Manufacturer pages were prioritized for specifications, price, warranty and intended use. If a specification was not published, we marked it as not published instead of estimating it.
SKÖ Gear manufactures one of the products in this comparison. We disclose that relationship because a useful comparison should recognize competitor strengths instead of structuring every category so the home product wins.
